Biophilic Shade

Exploring ways to incorporate nature in the built environment

The design was developed around the experience of wind, both visual and tactile. The main inspirational phenomenon for this was the movement of grass or wheat in a field. The initial design originated from the form of a leaf bending from the force of the wind. This silhouette was doubled, and the pattern was replicated in each quadrant of the frame.

This Shade design was one of 16 selected winners showcased in the Octagons Display of future biophilic architectural practices in Washington, DC.
